The field of Applied Purchasing and Supply Chain Management is concerned with the optimization of value chain for competitive advantage. Purchasing impacts individual, corporate and institutional lives more than any other activities in the world. The way purchasing and Supply Chain management is applied can make a big difference between organizational success and failure.

Because purchasing gulps substantial percentage of the cost of doing business in most organisations and the logistics function has only helped to facilitate efficiency further help was required to reduce over-all cost and improve the ‘bottom-line’ profit. Supply chains extend from the basic producers that supply the suppliers through all the stages of production (both primary and secondary processing and packaging) to the marketing facilities (warehousing/ transportation/ distribution/ storage/ retailing) to the final consumers. What the Society of Applied Purchasing And Supply Chain Management (SAPSCMA) believes is that the effectiveness of decision-making cannot be guaranteed by merely looking at issues within the confines of production/operations and marketing/sales departments but in board perspective to capture possible insights from the customers, the suppliers and other stakeholders. It is this global perspective which provides synergistic platform for practical evaluation of decision outcomes towards ensuring effective and efficient value creation and delivery that Applied Purchasing And Supply Chain Management is about.

WHAT IS SAPSCMA? THE SOCIETY OF APPLIED PURCHASING CHAIN MANAGEMENT

The Society of Applied purchasing And Supply Chain Management (SAPSCMA) is a professional association of practitioners of purchasing and supply chain management and administration in Nigeria. SAPSCMA is a division of The Certified Institute of Applied Management And Administration Ltd/Gte. The purpose is to have a CIAMA established Society as an organized group of professionals who apply management and administration competencies to purchasing and supply chain functions. Not all persons who have responsibility for purchasing and supply chain are qualified, certified or competent managers and administrators. By coming together under SAPSCMA, specialists in purchasing and supply chain will be increasing their applied management and administration knowledge for individual and corporate success in a knowledge-driven global economy.

WHY APPLIED MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION?

One of the greatest challenges in the World and particularly in Nigeria today is functional application or practical use of management and administration. Applied management and administration of purchasing and supply chain deals with not merely merging purchasing, stores, inventory control, production scheduling, logistics and so on into one department. It must start with serious orientation that will change orthodox mindsets and creates vissioners, interface reconciliators, sound information managers, makers of strategic alliances, strategic thinkers, innovative decision-makers, imaginative risk takers, intrapreneurial zealots and creative solution provides, with electronic commerce in vogue, who can balance effectiveness with efficiency for greater sustainable value.
